Emerging Leaders Program

The USASF through the National Advisory Board (NAB), has developed a program known as the Emerging Leaders Program.  Karen Wilson, West Regional Director for the USASF is the Program Director and meets with the NAB annually to guide the leaders and review progress made on the programs.

This program allows members of the NAB to nominate leaders from gyms around the country to participate in the creation of programs dsigned to help shape and impact the sport of cheerleading. Leaders are paired with NAB members who volunteer as mentors.  The mentors guide the participants in the development of programs that they hope can be implemented by the USASF for the purpose of impacting the sport in positive ways.  Suggested programs have included anti-bullying campaigns, athlete protection guidelines as well as warm-up standards.  Not all programs will be accepted and many will spend years in the pipeline for development before the USASF will take it on as one of its projects.

The IEP is a proud sponsor of the program believing that leadership must be continually sought and developed in the pursuit of maximum advancement.  Ann Lehrman, IEP Member and owner of Cheer & Dance Extreme, has served as a mentor for the program and feels that it has offered many young leaders in our industry a clearer understanding of the inner workings of the USASF.  She also has stated that “…their passion and ideas for the sport are true and sincere and that their involvement insures future success.”

The IEP and the USASF have created a video designed to highlight the merits of the program and to promote the partnership between both organizations.  Look for this video to be played at the Worlds venues.  If you’re interested in learning more about the program, feel free to contact Karen Wilson or Ann Lehrman.
